With the increasing awareness of how we affect our surrounding environments, there have been major strides in the Swimming Pool Industry to become more environmentally friendly.  Many manufacturers have taken it upon themselves to be leaders in energy efficient equipment and environmentally friendly chemicals. 

The industry has seen an increase in the use of automatic covers because of their operational cost savings as well as the safety advantages they provide.  Feel free to read about the ways you can make your pool more efficient whether it’s a new construction project or updating an existing pool.

Equipment:

One of the biggest break-throughs in pool equipment have been in the variable speed pumps.  These pumps are able to operate at speeds equivalent to a 3 HP pump to as little as a .5 HP pump.  The pumps are easily controlled by either the pad on the pump or by a control system and can be programmed to run at lower speeds during peak electrical hours and higher speeds during off hours.  These pumps become extremely energy efficient when they are used with proper plumbing pipe sizes.  This is a detail we pride ourselves on because of the way we develop and construct the hydraulics of all of our systems.

Chemicals:

Chemicals are always a concern when discussing an inground pool both environmentally and the affect it has on the swimmers.  There are many ways to make your pool less chemical dependent with all the new technology available.  Salt Chlorine Generators allow homeowners to generate chlorine in the pool using salt.  This helps pool owners in 3 main ways:

• Less Operating Costs – Salt is less expensive than chlorine and greatly lowers the yearly cost of chemicals.
• Soft on the Bathers – The water is often described as being softer on the skin, no burning eyes, and no chlorine odor.  There is the added benefit of not having to store chlorine which can be harmful if handled in an improper way.
• Easy Maintenance – With the salt generator, a level of chlorine can be preset and the system will maintain that level.  It’s great if you go out of town for extended periods and,there’s no worrying about filling the chlorinator.

There are also a new generation of pool chemicals hitting the markets this year.  The biggest affect will be on how your pool is sanitized with the new chlorine tabs.  These tabs have a new chemical called a borate that increases the effectiveness of the chlorine molecules without an increase of chlorine concentration.

These new tabs work especially well with the new “EZ Pool” line of pool care products.  This state-of-the-art product line eliminates the need for all the chemicals most homeowners stock every year.  In fact, this chemical program requires only one product.  The EZ Pool product contains the oxidizer, ph balancer, alkalinity balancer, clarifier, and sequestering agent.  All you have to do is add the recommended dose based on your pools gallons along with one or two tablets, and your pool is guaranteed to be algae free.

Autocovers:

Automatic Covers have become one of the most popular options to have.  With the operational savings and the safety protection it offers, they are a hard item to pass up.  The covers lower operating costs by decreasing the amount of evaporation.  With less evaporation, less heat and chemicals are lost, which results in lower chemical and gas costs.  You can also decrease the run time of filter pumps because less debris is introduced into the pool.

These covers can be installed during construction of a new pool or during a renovation of an older pool.  An added touch with our covers is the option to have the cover lid made out of the same material as your coping.  That way you get a seamless look around the pool.

The most popular and easiest option for a pool cover renovation is the deck mounted top track with the cover stored on top of the deck.  There is also the option to have the cover stored flush with the deck.  Though this option offers the most aesthetically pleasing look, it is more costly due to the additional amount of work required.
