The Most Fun Pool Ideas for Summer
Summer is right around the corner! Start thinking about pool activities that will make the most of your backyard oasis. Beating the heat with a backyard pool is a great place to start.
Don’t just settle for swimming when you can have a full day of fun in the sun. We’ve put together some creative ways to entertain family and guests by your pool this summer:
Have a Movie Night, Poolside
A poolside movie night is one of the best ways to entertain your friends and family after the sun goes down. In order to host a great movie night, you can pull together a projector, screen, and some comfortable seating.
Renting a projector is a great way to save money if you’re only planning on hosting one movie night, but buying a projector may be more economical if you plan to turn this event into a tradition!
To make your guests more comfortable, don’t forget to add blankets, pillows, and of course, popcorn.
Volleyball is a sport that is enjoyed by people of all ages, but have you ever tried playing it in the pool? Pool or water volleyball is a fun and exciting twist on the classic game.
Be sure to grab a net that spans across your pool as well as a volleyball and you’ll be all set. Water volleyball is a great way to keep everyone active and entertained for hours on end.
Water Balloon Toss
A water balloon toss is a wonderful way to get people of all ages involved in a fun poolside activity, especially if you are hosting a large group. For a game of water balloon toss, first split players into teams of two.
Form two straight lines, with teammates facing each other. Then, have each player take a step back from their teammate and toss the balloon to them. The opposite player must catch the balloon without popping it. If a balloon pops, that team is out.
As the game progresses, it will become harder as the distance increases!
Marco Polo is a classic and fun pool game that will surely have every participant laughing! Follow these rules for the game:
- Set the boundaries of the play area
- One player is designated to be Marco Polo.
- Marco Polo is either blindfolded or closes their eyes and keeps them shut for the duration of their turn as Marco Polo.
- The person playing Marco Polo puts their arms out and shouts “Marco!”
- The other players respond, “Polo!” while avoiding being touched by the person playing Marco Polo.
- The call and response repeats for 5 minutes.
Poolside karaoke is a blast, no matter what age you are. Set up a karaoke machine near the pool and let your guests show off their singing skills (or lack thereof). This is a great way to get everyone involved and have some laughs.
Get in a workout while you cool off in the pool with water aerobics. There are plenty of water aerobics videos available online that you can follow along with, or you can create your own routine and share it with your friends. Add water weights for an extra cardio workout.
A poolside picnic is a fun way to engage with your family and friends near the water on a hot summer day. Pack your favorite snacks, or perhaps grill out, make some drinks and enjoy everything the day has in store.
Pool floats are synonymous with summer time fun. If you have pool floats, consider using them to have a race across the pool. This is an activity that everyone can participate in. You can even make it more exciting by adding some obstacles to the course.
