Swimming Pool Security

If you’re planning on heading out of town for the holidays, don’t forget to make sure your pool/spa area is locked up and secure before hitting the road this Christmas season.

There are several steps that a homeowner can take to make sure their pool/spa area remains safe and inaccessible while the house is empty, but the easiest and most obvious, by far, is to make sure that the fence or gated area around the pool is closed and locked before leaving town. This will help to keep unwanted visitors from wandering in while you’re away.

Installing a lockable cover is an extra but necessary element for any pool or spa setup. Pool covers do more than keep out debris, rain and snow; they help to keep out animals (such as mice or other rodents) that may be looking for a warm place to hibernate during the colder months. More importantly, a pool cover will help to protect children who may happen to wander into a yard while it’s unattended. At the end of the day, pool covers will protect the lives of others in addition to the quality of your pool/spa.

One last security option is to literally keep an eye on your pool while you are away. Setting up security cameras and connecting them to an app is an option for monitoring property remotely. Pentair is one company that has an app like this for mobile devices

Just because you aren’t home, doesn’t mean that you have to feel uncomfortable leaving your pool or spa unattended. Ensuring your pool’s security just requires a bit of preparation. How prepared are you to leave town this holiday season?
